Who we are

PSDS restores and empowers communities through design and art, embracing reclamation as a path to joy and healing. We believe in the power of spaces to honor history, amplify community voices, and evolve to meet future needs. By blending art, architecture, and design, we create functional, sustainable, and expressive environments that welcome all.

Our values are rooted in restoring spaces affected by displacement, erasure, and exclusion, transforming them into places of healing and growth. We respect the cultural and historical significance of land, architecture, and artistic expression, blending past and future to shape spaces that reflect diverse histories and experiences.

Beyond design, our work includes research, publications, and curated exhibitions that explore how art and architecture can restore and reimagine spaces with complex histories. Recognized for our innovative approach, we use design as a tool for transformation, turning sites of exclusion into places of joy and belonging. Each project reflects the people who inhabit it, preserving legacies and fostering connection.

At PSDS, we see design as a movement toward a just, inclusive, and restorative future, where art and design play a central role in shaping equitable communities.

PSDS is led by Mariel Reed, who founded the studio following her graduate program. As a designer committed to architecture as a tool for social change, Mariel takes a multidisciplinary approach to the built environment, blending urban design, adaptive reuse, and community-centered development. With experience across residential, commercial, and cultural projects, Mariel has worked with firms dedicated to reimagining spaces through technical precision and creative storytelling. Her expertise spans high-end and affordable housing, historic preservation, and urban-scale interventions.

Our practice is built on the belief that design should be a force for equity, resilience, and healing. Through research, material exploration, and collaboration, we create spaces that are both impactful and enduring.
